Course Details

About the Course

The professional studies programme is delivered by teaching experts some of whom work for national education organisations including the EEF, Maths and English Hubs

You will work closely with your YWTT tutor, an excellent primary teacher who will support your development throughout the course. They will meet with you weekly to gain a deep understanding of your specific needs and progress, allowing them to design and deliver bespoke intensive training placements in their school.

School placements are carefully structured to ensure the gradual development of your teaching across EYFS and KS1. Spending Monday to Thursday in school allows you to continually apply and refine your developing knowledge and skills. Your mentor in each placement school will support you daily, giving you regular formative feedback through observation and weekly mentor meetings. They also work closely with your tutor to design and deliver the school based training programme.

A team of primary and EYFS experts will ensure you have the knowledge, skills and confidence to deliver all aspects of the EYFS and KS1 curriculum. 100% of our 22/23 cohort strongly agreed that they had been effectively trained by YWTT.

You may be eligible for a student loan. These are normally for undergraduate courses but you can also apply if you do postgraduate teacher training.

Interview process

When you apply on the Department for Education (DfE) website, your application will go through an initial screening process. If your application makes it through the initial screen, you will be formally invited to an interview in one of our School Direct partner schools.

You may be eligible for financial support from the government  if you choose a course without a salary. This support includes bursaries, scholarships and loans.

International candidates

You’ll need the right to work in the UK. You already have this if, for example, you:

  • are an Irish citizen
  • have settled or pre-settled status under the EU Settlement Scheme (you may still be able to apply)
  • have indefinite leave to remain in the UK

If you do not already have the right to work in the UK, you may need to apply for a visa. The main visa for salaried courses is the Skilled Worker visa.

To apply for a Skilled Worker visa you need to be sponsored by your employer.

Sponsorship is not available for this course.

If you need a visa, filter your course search to find courses with visa sponsorship.

Alternatively, check if you’re eligible for a different type of visa, such as a Graduate or Family visa, that allows you to train to be a teacher without being sponsored.

If your qualifications come from a non-UK institution, we may want to see a ‘statement of comparability’ from UK ENIC. This will show us how they compare to UK qualifications.
