Our Primary SEND programme offers a part-time option to support individuals who need more flexibility while training to teach. This may be due to family commitments or the need to work alongside teacher training.
The Primary SEND part-time programme runs for five school terms and starts in September. During the first four terms, trainees attend the programme three days per week, typically on Mondays and two additional days that can be agreed upon to further increase flexibility. In the fifth term, trainees will transition to full-time school placements to ensure they have the skills required to work both full-time and part-time after achieving QTS (Qualified Teacher Status).
The programme leads to QTS and a PGCE. The PGCE component consists of two modules, both completed in the first year, allowing more time in the second year to focus on teaching and meeting the Teachers’ Standards.
The part-time programme is effectively sequenced to help trainees gradually take on classroom responsibilities, building their confidence and skills to become effective teachers. Trainees benefit from a customised training programme that accommodates the demands of their daily lives.
In order to be eligible for the programme you would need to hold the following qualifications:
At least a Grade C/Level 4 in GCSE English and Maths or equivalent.
For Primary you would also require at least a Grade C/Level 4 in GCSE Science or equivalent.
A Degree at a 2:2 or above, preferably in the subject you wish to apply for.
Before you start the course, you will need to have a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) security check.
The course fees for UK students in 2025 to 2026 are £9,250.

When you apply on the Department for Education (DfE) website, your application will go through an initial screening process. If your application makes it through the initial screen, you will be formally invited to an interview in one of our School Direct partner schools.

If you do not already have the right to work in the UK, you may need to apply for a visa. The main visa for salaried courses is the Skilled Worker visa.
To apply for a Skilled Worker visa you need to be sponsored by your employer.
Sponsorship is not available for this course.
If you need a visa, filter your course search to find courses with visa sponsorship.
Alternatively, check if you’re eligible for a different type of visa, such as a Graduate or Family visa, that allows you to train to be a teacher without being sponsored.

If your qualifications come from a non-UK institution, we may want to see a ‘statement of comparability’ from UK ENIC. This will show us how they compare to UK qualifications.
