This exciting programme is designed to recruit a passionate and dedicated trainee to become a confident Design and Technology teacher with the skills to teach in any educational setting. While the course offers enhanced training in SEND, particularly for a SEND Post-16 setting at Trent View College it also equips you with the subject knowledge, skills, and confidence to deliver high-quality primary lessons across a range of school environments.
A key feature of this programme is its SEND specialism, providing a unique opportunity for trainees who are eager to teach Design and Technology in a Post-16 SEND environment where students have diverse learning needs. By combining practical teaching experience with academic learning, you will develop the ability to deliver inclusive lessons that engage all learners while preparing you to teach effectively in mainstream settings as well. Trent View is a new P16 special setting with state-of-the-art Motor Vehicle workshop and fully accessible
Catering Kitchen.
Throughout the course, you will gain hands-on classroom experience in two contrasting settings:
You will spend Monday to Thursday in school, refining your teaching practice under the guidance of experienced mentors. This consistent classroom exposure ensures that you continuously develop your confidence and competence as an educator.
The professional studies programme is delivered by teaching experts, some of whom are affiliated with national education organisations, including the Education Endowment Foundation. These experienced professionals, along with your mentors, will provide personalised support throughout your journey.
In addition to working closely with subject specialists in Design and Technology, you will receive tailored guidance from experienced SEND practitioners. Your mentor and tutor will meet with you weekly to provide constructive feedback and support, ensuring that your training aligns with your specific needs and progress.
School placements are carefully designed to support your gradual development as a teacher. Each placement school will assign you a dedicated mentor who will:
This mentorship is complemented by tailored school-based training programmes developed in collaboration with your tutor. These combined experiences ensure that you are well-prepared to teach Design and Technology confidently in both SEND and mainstream settings.
What sets this course apart is the enhanced focus on SEND training. While you will gain the knowledge and skills to teach Design and Technology in any environment, the additional focus on SEND ensures you are uniquely equipped to support diverse learners.
